Installing iOS 7 Gold Master (GM) on my iPhone 5 64GB (How-to)

With the Gold Master (GM) release of iOS 7 out in the net, I decided to try it out on my iPhone 5 64GB to see how it looks like and to be one of the first.

As many know, the release on Sept 18 would have little changes from the GM and that most features will be readily available in the GM version.

There is a way to get it installed without a developer's account and I was interested to test this out.

So let's take a look how to get it done.

Btw, I am using an iPhone 5 64GB with Starhub Singapore as the mobile operator , Model under Settings -> General -> About is MS662ZA/A

Based on http://www.apple.com/iphone/LTE/

The model we are using in Singapore is

Model A1429

Step 1 - Backup your phone to iCloud (important if you want all your data restored back after upgrade)

Step 2 - Update you iPhone to latest version, which is  6.1.4 for iPhone 5 (think it's 6.1.3 for iPhone 4S)

Step 3 - Download the iOS 7 GM firmware file. This is the 11A465 build

Step 4 - Restore iPhone to plain OS

In iTunes, click on "Restore iPhone", this will return the phone to its "Blank" state

Step 5 -  After the firmware is restored, On the iPhone, select "Set Up as New iPhone" NOT restore from backup

Step 6 - Skip the Login with Apple ID

Step 7- In iTunes, select "Setup as new iPhone too (cancel as sync, if it starts)

Step 8 - Hold Shift and Left Click on "Check for Update"
Step 9 - Select iOS 7 ipsw file you downloaded in step 2, iTunes will then start to install the new firmware on your phone.

And that's it, your phone will be running iOS 7. Note that iTunes 11.05 will not be able to link up/sync with it anymore... it requires 11.2

Hope this sharing helps anyone who wishes to try out the new OS before the launch.

Note:
If you want to roll-back/downgrade back to iOS 6, you have to put the iPhone is DFU mode and then restore it to the backup on iTunes.

Update:
If you need to restore a backup from iOS 6.1.4 to iOS 7 via your PC/Windows, you can also use this tool (due to iTunes 11.2 beta not being available for windows):
